Te Wananga o Raukawa had some very low course completions results in 2009 and 2010 (42% and 43% respectively). That was below the threshold of 55% where private providers were starting off negotiations with a zero funding allocation from TEC for 2012, so I asked the question in August whether the public institution should be funded in 2012…. Policy & Management Maori Education RNZ had two rather weak stories yesterday, referring to WITT holding its own on Te Reo Maori against TWOA (which “has several North Island campuses” which understates things a little) and Te Wananga O Raukawa’s badly explaining its poor completions. I might write more on the latter. SIT International The Southland Times covers… Read Full Story.

Some kids may be pulled from school if Canterbury builds a bar next door (NB sounds like hyperbole to me). Maori Trades Otago Poly is helping to encourage more Maori into trades. The latest figures, just announced (here is Raukawa’s report), show that their 2010 course completions were 43%, a paltry improvement of 1%. That’s pretty poor…. Read Full Story.

Wananga Institute There’s an interesting media release about Te Wananga O Raukawa here. First, they’re establishing an Institute of Maori Lifestyle Advancement, which I’m sure will get negative headlines in future for it’s silly name (imagine what a cartoonist could do with that!), But anyway, they’re building a $4-5m facility for the Institute and the local economic development… Read Full Story.

TEC is releasing education performance data today and I’ve put together a table below of qualification completions for TEIs – I’ve left out PTEs and OTEPs only because I haven’t got time to enter all the data, but I’ve added some notes on PTEs below. The measurement is: all qual completions multiplied by EFTS value/total EFTS enrolled in courses…. Read Full Story.
