  1. Labour Defends ITPs Labour’s Grant Robertson is defending ITPs from funding cuts and roll caps. He noted that the ”Chief Executive of SIT has said the latest cut was ‘something of a surprise’”. Ha ha, if Penny Simmonds was ever surprised at TEC wanting to cut SIT’s funding, it would amaze me!! Grant is also in Indian Newslink talking about broader tertiary cuts.
  2. WITT-Taratahi Launch Agriculture Minister David Carter launched the new partnership between WITT and Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre yesterday. It builds on existing work in Taranaki by Taratahi, which also set up at EIT this year.
  3. WISA Lawsuit Whitireia’s students’ assn is facing a lawsuit for it to be liquidated, while polytech management and the attorney-general are also being sued – it’s all from a serial litigant and won’t go anywhere.
  4. Adventure Tourism Tai Poutini Polytechnic has welcomed the adventure tourism review, saying that it will “help improve consistency and provide clear expectations to operators and training providers”.
  5. UC Fees Up The University of Canterbury is putting up its fees by 4% – and who wouldn’t in an environment of excess demand?
  6. Drug Prices Meth is going up, but a joint is immune to inflation, according to Massey research. Stuff ran a story too.
  7. Cool Canterbury Canterbury may get hot in summer, but it’s not hot enough to affect the cows, according to a Lincoln academic.
  8. Bits and Pieces WelTec has a Toque D’or/Culinary Fare media release. A Dunedin education trade mission is off to Shanghai. A Waikato Uni academic talks about work-life balance. Massey’s David Tripe puts SCF’s lending in perspective. An Auckland Uni nutritionist has won an industry award.
