- Pim’s Credit Card Waiariki has gone on the front foot over having its CE’s credit card bill listed as one of the biggest in the public sector. Pim Borren has pointed out that most of it related to international student marketing, with revenues from that area booming.
- Cheating Students Lincoln Uni has proportionally the most cheats amongst NZ’s unis, whcih seems closely linked to its high proportion of international students.
- League Tables The TEU is concerned about league tables being developed from performance data, as was NZITP in a National Radio interview.
- PEDA Change The Pacific Economic Development Agency has lost the dollars dedicated to it in the Budget for Pasifika skills and economic development, as it obviously didn’t come up with a strong enough case. The money is now being put out to tender.
- Master Plan Canty Uni has revealed a site master plan, which is all the rage. This one has up to $1b of investment over 20 years.
- Closing Doors Here’s a piece on the impact of closed entry for Massey students. I like the highlighting of the impact on part-time and mature students, who will be squeezed by both restricted entry (institutions will be biased towards full-time students) and the TES.
Great Glass A former NorthTec student won prestigious Ranamok Glass Prize 2010, Australasia’s biggest prize for glass art. You can see the vase at left, but there’s a better view here. Last year’s winner was from UCOL and has just won another award.
- Youth Opportunities There’s some comment in Gisborne about opportunities for youth.
- Clarification I referred to an ODT story about the reaction of the parents of Sophie Elliott to a new Otago Uni policy – the ODT has issued a clarification.
- Bits and Pieces Auckland Uni’s OneBeep team, which did so well at the Microsoft world software competition, has been recognised by the University. NMIT has added a rowing partnership to its basketball and rugby relationships. An Otago Poly student experienced a flaming locomotive on a tourism familiarisation trip. A CPIT team is off to the Toque D’Or cooking competition.A Pt Chevalier resident has won a new garden designed by Unitec students.
