- Education NZ Not Charitable That’s not my judgment, but the Charities Commission, which has not awarded them charitable status. It will make life a bit more inconvenient (and costly) for ENZ, but I’m happy that the new Charities Commission is being much tougher on who gets charitable status – ENZ is, after all, an export promotion body. There are some other educational bodies that got charitable status that surprised me, but I won’t name them – I’m not on a witch hunt!
- Top Piggery The herd manager at Christchurch Men’s Prison has been named herd manager of the year by the pork industry, a week after winning the Corrections Inmate Employment Innovation Awards for running a training programme within the piggery.
- Otago Corner Two Otago Uni students are off to an Aspiring Leaders Forum in Wellington. Like hazelnuts and are overweight? You could be part of a study on hazelnuts’ effect on heart disease. Otago Uni has 1,064 credit cards, which is quite high, but everyone manages their finances differently.
- 1080 Prof Charles Eason, Lincoln University, is working on alternatives to 1080 in possum control. TV3 did a story last night too and The Press this morning.
- Youth Success We heard a lot about youth failures and unemployment these days, so here’s a piece about a teenage dad succeeding in MIT’s (oops, it was Unitec’s) Youth Guarantee scheme. Sure it’s probably a PR piece from MITUnitec, but it reads well.
