  1. ITF on Quals The ITF has put out a release about the new quals framework and Jeremy Baker has laid down the challenge: “Industry Training Organisations (ITOs) are the national standard setting bodies for New Zealand industries, and we look forward to that role being given full effect in the new system”. It will be both fascinating and important to see whether the strong words of the latest reform in relation to industry input translate into action.

  3. Science Key The ODT has an editorial today on the importance of science - a constructive contribution.
  4. Top Designer Amber Bridgman, the Otago Poly student who won an award in Italy last week, it now going to be showing at NZ Fashion Week. It’s a good news story.
  5. Conference EIT wasn’t going to run a dry boring conference, not when their topic was wine – they had the NZ Wine Business Symposium last week.
  6. Local Elections Massey Uni students might host some local election debates in the near future.
  7. Racing A Bay of Plenty Poly student is off to the world junior athletics champs in Canada. Meanwhile, a class of cars racing at Manfeild is based on cars produced by the UCOL motorsports course.
  8. Pig Saved A pig wandering in Dunedin’s student area has been saved and is now on a lifestyle property.
  9. Tagging Chef A Weltec grad can’t find a job due to his criminal record, but he’s painted a tribute to Weltec in a photo here.
