  1. New Science Ministry MORST and FRST are being merged – the new name will be the Ministry of Science and Innovation. I think they should have called it a Centre and then they could have had a cool CSI acronym…
  2. SIT in India The Southland Times  has requested info on SIT’s John Wright marketing trip to India under the OIA, and found that it cost around $50K and that forecasts are for around $3m income.
  3. TEC Chair’s View Sir Wira Gardiner, new TEC Chair, has said he was sorry he helped disestablish the Maori Trade Training Scheme back when he was TPK CE, as it should have been stepped up instead.
  4. Eat Cheese NMIT tutors have written up a guide to cheese and some recipes in the local paper.
  5. Undie Kaikoura The Undie 500, involving Canterbury Uni students, seems to have been scared off Blenheim and is now talking to Kaikouraabout ending up there. They seem to have some Council support but some locals are upset. At this rate, they’ll end up just driving around Christchurch.
  6. Dunedin Alcohol Wars There’s a story here about the closure of the Gardies pub in Dunedin and how their last night will be managed – the police are hoping for rain. Meanwhile, the OUSA has criticised the Dunedin City Council for voting against approving an alternative event for students unable to get into the Gardies on closing night.
