Some Budget Discussion Starters

May 21st 2010 at 8:40am, By Dave Guerin

Well, it was a busy night and early morning today analysing the Budget, so the news post will be a little later, but in the interim, feel free to pop up your comments on the Budget. Here are some starters:

  1. The new annual fee movement limit will allow some fees to rise that have been frozen for years, but most courses might face lower maximum fee increases next year. Is this a win for students and a further hassle for providers with historically low fees?
  2. PTEs have got no EFTS increase from a National government – what do they need to do next?
  3. Is the focus on new EFTS for universities and ITPs, even if minimal, the right one?
  4. Isn’t it good that funds have finally been simplified across the sector? But will the old funds’ criteria sneak back into investment plans?
  5. Pensioners and veterans have been banned from concurrently getting a student allowance – who knew they could!
