News 30/4 – Careerforce Criticised, Auckland gets Creative

  1. ITP Councils Whitireia Community Polytechnic has rounded out its Council by appointing four members of its community to hold office from 1 May, 3 of whom are on the current Council – the new member, Kabini Sanga, is an interacting character – read this story about his main area of work with Pasifika people. Bay of Plenty Polytechnic has also made the announcements, with 17-year Chair Andrea Marsh stepping down. She’s a lovely person who has given a lot to BOPP.
  2. Creative PhD The University of Auckland will allow creative work to be assessed as part of a PhD by July 2010. They’re holding a seminar soon to discuss how it will work.
  3. Careerforce Criticised An industry group has criticised the Careerforce ITO for spending money on a conference, but its’ really part of a wider clash over the direction of the ITO, which is reviewing its governance structure. The clash over conference costs is just a quick news story, but the final change in governance will be interesting.
  4. Good Maori Stats Rotorua’s Daily Post has a story on more Maori students staying at school longer, getting higher qualifications and moving on to tertiary education.
